EXPERIMENTS

Things I designed and built for myself and the people around me. Each has one decision worth explaining, and one limit worth saying out loud.

KUOSC Design Community

A peer community for student designers at Kathmandu University

Ran it for one year

I ran the Design Community of KUOSC, the open source community at Kathmandu University, for one year: a place for students to learn design by doing it alongside peers.

We ran a monthly design challenge, #UnleashYourCreativity, a 'Zero to One: Become a Designer' workshop, a Designathon and a 'Designer Meets' series, and did UI work for the university computer club. I published the community's site from a Notion workspace.

museAR

AR and location-based audio for Nepal's museums

Ideation, team lead, design, frontend

Award at KU Hackfest (certificate held)

Many exhibits in Nepal's museums, such as the Patan Museum, come with little explanation, and what there is can be hard to follow for visitors who don't read the local languages. The team framed five problems: missing information, limited space beside each object, language barriers, information overload and static displays.

museAR was our concept for a phone guide that plays audio stories as you move through a museum, overlays reconstructions and imagery on exhibits in AR, and offers several languages and themed tours. It was a university team project of four, built with Unity and Vuforia, and I worked on the idea, led the team, and did design and frontend.

It received an award at KU Hackfest, and I hold the certificate.

ARestro

View, order and pay for food in AR in one app

Ideation, design, QA

ARestro was a team concept for viewing, ordering and paying for food in one mobile app. Diners could see menu items as 3D models at real scale, scan a QR code for each item to order it, reserve tables, find nearby restaurants and leave ratings.

It was a team of five, using Flutter, Node.js, MongoDB and Unity, and my part was ideation, design and QA. Our own conclusion named its main gap: it served diners but had no support system for the restaurants, so a restaurant-side management app was the obvious next step.

Mero Kotha

Verified rental housing search for Nepal

UI design

Mero Kotha was a team concept for finding rental housing in Nepal, built around verified listings, in-app messaging between tenants and landlords, and reviews for both sides. Recommendations and fair-price estimates were planned features.

It was a team of seven, using Next.js, NestJS and PostgreSQL, and I did the UI design.

Your Health

Personal health records shared between patient and doctor

Ideation, design, frontend

Your Health was a Flutter app for keeping personal health reports in one place and sharing them between patient and doctor. It aimed to read key values from photographed reports, call the nearest hospital in an emergency, show nearby hospitals and pharmacies, and calculate BMI.

We were a team of four, working over about three months, using Flutter, Node.js, MongoDB and Python. I worked on ideation, design and frontend. As we wrote at the time, the time limit left the app with some limitations.

Vāc

Real-time insights for e-sports commentary

Ideation, design

Vāc explored generated, real-time commentary for e-sports: it read live match data and turned it into narration and statistics for viewers, with a live chat alongside.

It was a team of four, with a Flutter app and a Go backend. I worked on ideation and design.

TourVision

Tour planning for visitors to Nepal, with AR

Ideation, design

TourVision was a concept for an AR tourist guide to Nepal's heritage sites. The app would recognise the site you are at, show a short description, guide you to its highlights, and trigger animation, audio or text when you reach an important object.

It was a team of four, planned around Unity and Vuforia. I worked on ideation and design. What we documented is the concept and its workflow.

Flame detection and suppression

Arduino fire-safety system: detect, alarm, pump

Team lead, build, QA

A small fire-safety system built on an Arduino Nano. An infrared flame sensor watches continuously; when it sees a flame, a buzzer sounds, a red LED replaces the green standby light, and a pump starts to spray water.

It was a team of four, and I led the team, worked on the build and did QA. Our write-up described a cooldown period after each activation, but the firmware never implemented it: an early lesson in keeping documentation and code in step.

team projects: mostly ideation, team lead, design, QA and frontend
